Sunday Citizen vs The Moose Nest: Which Blanket Brand Wins in Real Life Use?

If you’ve ever scrolled through Instagram and fallen in love with those cozy-looking Sunday Citizen blankets, you’re not alone. Their chunky textures and trendy marketing have made waves, but after trying them (and dealing with a few snags), I found myself searching for something a little more...livable for me and my dog. That’s when I came across The Moose Nest, a small business that’s doing cozy a little differently, and honestly, maybe better.

Here’s my real-life breakdown after owning blankets from both brands.

🧶 Snag Factor: One Clear Winner

Let’s start with the one issue that turned me off Sunday Citizen fast: snags. As pretty as their blankets are in photos, they’re delicate. I had mine on the couch for maybe a week before a ring and my dog’s paw created a few pulled threads. Not the end of the world, but they market a pet-friendly home? A little disappointing.

The Moose Nest, on the other hand, feels designed for actual life. The texture is plush and tight, no snagging, even with pets jumping all over it and chewing his bone right on top of it. I’ve washed it several times (yes, it goes in the washing machine) and it still looks brand new. Major win.

🛋️ Design: Bold vs Timeless Neutrals

This part comes down to personal taste, but if you’re into neutral, elevated home vibes (think: coastal, boho, or just clean and calm), The Moose Nest wins here, too.

Sunday Citizen tends to lean into bold patterns or color blocking, which some people love, but to me felt a little loud and stood out a little too much in my home. The Moose Nest offers soft, neutral tones that blend into your space instead of overpowering it. It's the kind of thing that looks good in any room — dorm, living room, or even your guest room — and never goes out of style.

🐾 Pet & Kid Friendly

If you live with kids, dogs, or just exist in a busy household, this part is huge.

Sunday Citizen’s throws are comfy and light, yes, but they feel more decorative than durable. The Moose Nest, in contrast, clearly designed their blankets to be used. Mine’s been through coffee spills, muddy paws, and on my patio, and it still comes out of the wash soft and perfectly fluffy every time. Like I said before, my dog has put this through the wringer and no snags or pilling from The Moose Nest.

💸 Price & Brand Vibe

They’re both in the “treat yourself” price range, but what I liked about The Moose Nest is that it’s a small business, founded by a dog mom who wanted to create something cozy, durable, and beautiful for real homes. It feels a lot more personal, and honestly, that makes me feel better about spending money. Plus, the value just holds up better over time.

Final Thoughts

If you’re deciding between Sunday Citizen and The Moose Nest, here’s the bottom line:

Sunday Citizen: Colorful, soft, great for styling photos, but a little fragile and bold in design.

The Moose Nest: Cozy, washable, snag-free, and designed to handle real life, while still looking beautiful.

For me, The Moose Nest is where comfort and practicality meet. And if you’ve ever bought something “luxury” only to baby it like fine china, this brand will be a breath of fresh air.
